Extraction process parameters can influence the quality of oil obtained from seeds during extraction process. The effect of extraction process parameters on the quality of parinari seed oil, a potential renewable industrial raw material, is yet to be reported. This research was aimed at investigating the effects of some extraction process parameters on some quality characteristics of parinari oil (acid, iodine and saponification values). This work reports for the first time the effects of extraction process parameters on the properties of parinari seed oil. The parinari seeds were harvested and oil was obtained from the seeds by solvent extraction method based on the experimental design. The experimental design followed central composite design (CCD). Effects of extraction parameters on the quality characteristics were investigated. The study parameters were time (2-6 h), temperature (60-70 o C), solid-solvent ratio (0.03 -0.08 g/cm 3 ) and solvent types (n-hexane and petroleum ether). The responses were acid, saponification and iodine values. The results indicated that time and temperature significantly influenced the physicochemical properties of parinari oil. Response Surface Methodology (RSM) based analysis of variance indicated that the models obtained were all significant (p < 0.0001). The set of conditions for the optimal quality was obtained at temperature (60 o C), time (2 h), solid to solvent ratio (0.07 g/cm 3 ) and n-hexane solvent with 89.7% desirability. The effects of the extraction process parameters on parinari oil quality were obtained. The information provided from this work will be useful for potential scaling up of the parinari oil extraction process.

An appropriate kinetic law that governs some important conditions of the reaction process for dehydrated castor monoglyceride modified alkyd resin has been developed. A kinetic experiment was conducted following a standard procedure. The classical third order conversion rate model was utilized in determining the rate parameters while the viscosity-conversion model suggested by the free-volume theory was applied for the viscosity kinetics studies. The kinetic model considered for this study adequately predicts the reaction progress even beyond the actual gelation point. The effects of the system parameters on both the predicted yields and the corresponding conversion rates were documented in a well-designed sampling space implemented by statistical screening optimization paradigm. The effects of system parameters on the reaction rates further investigated based on Arrhenius equation detect a heavy mass transfer resistance during the esterification process. A detailed analysis of the response reveals a deviation from linear first order kinetics and possible transition to second and higher order kinetics in the later stages of the esterification reaction.

The kinetics and optimization of oil extraction from gmelina seed was studied. The effect of various process variables such as temperature, time, volume of solvent, particle size, and their interaction on oil yield was investigated. A predictive model describing the oil yield in terms process variables was derived from multiple regression analysis. Optimum yield of 49.90 % was predicted at extraction temperature of 60°C, extraction time of 60 min, seed particle size of 150 lm and 150 ml volume of solvent, for the process. It was found that oil yield increased with increase in temperature, time and volume of solvent but decreased with increase in seed particle size. The extract was analyzed to examine its physico-chemical properties (acid value, iodine value, peroxide value, viscosity, saponification value, moisture and ash content, refractive index, smoke, flash and fire points, and specific gravity) and structural elucidation by standard methods and instrumental techniques. Results revealed that the oil is not edible but find potential in biodiesel production. The kinetic study showed that the extraction process follows a second order mechanism with a rate constant of 1.26 9 10 11 (dm 3 mol -1 ) 3 S -1 .
