“…Scholars have assessed the method's efficiency within various designs (e.g. Moors 1971, Dowling & Shachtman 1975, Pollock & Bek 1976) and compared them to estimates from direct questioning (e.g. , Krumpal 2012, Rosenfeld et al 2014, Gingerich et al 2014.…”

“…Unlike the other designs, this design introduces an unrelated question in order to increase respondents' compliance with survey instruction. Furthermore, Moors (1971) shows that this design is more efficient than the mirror question, and it allows for quantitative responses.…”

“…To encourage cooperation of the respondents and truthful answers, and to procure trustworthy data for estimating the proportion of people bearing a socially disapproved characteristic in a community, Warner (1965) first introduced a procedure called the randomized response technique for collecting data on sensitive issues while trying to protect respondents' privacy. Subsequently, various extensions have been introduced (see, for example, Anthony, 1990;Chaudhuri, 1987;Horvitz et al, 1967;Manget and Singh, 1990;Moors, 1971; among others). The basic purpose of such methods or techniques is to estimate the proportion, in a population, of the respondents with sensitive character, whose truthful response to a sensitive question would be "yes", without exposing respondents' privacy to the interviewer, and consequently avoiding social stigma or fear of reprisals.…”

“…If protection degree is not considered, Gupta et al's RR design is more efficient than the scrambled RR technique suggested by Eichhorn and Hayre (1983). As for efficiency of RR device, several researchers (Dowing and Shachtman, 1975;Eichhorn and Hayre, 1983;Folsom et al, 1973;Greenberg et al, 1969Greenberg et al, , 1971Gupta et al, 2002;Moors, 1971) have contributed to the further development of Warner's model by having compared their strategies, using variance as the measure of efficiency. It is observed that, generally speaking, the efficiency of a strategy increases when the level of response confidentiality decreases.…”

“…Several other workers have contributed to the further development of Warner's (1965) strategy (Abul-Ela et al, 1967;Horvitz et al, 1967;Greenberg et al, 1969;Moors, 1971;Erikson, 1973;Folsom et al, 1973;Raghavarao, 1978;Mangat and Singh, 1990;and Mangat, 1994).…”
