Optothermal properties of fibers. XIV. Investigation of some optical structural parameters of annealed and cold drawn polyester fibers

Abstract: Two-beam interferometry and density methods previously measured are used to study the changes in optical properties of annealed and cold drawn polyester (PET) fibers. Some structural parameters in the present work are determined, such as form birefringence, the number of molecules per unit volume, the virtual refractive index, the harmonic mean polarizability of the dielectric, the harmonic mean specific refractivity, and the isotropic refractive index. Also, the distribution of segment at an angle with respec… Show more

“…From literature, the average refractive index for PET is usually in the range of 1.57-1.66. 2,[9][10][11][12][13] Much less is reported on the properties of PEN, but the range of the average refractive index is reported to be 1.64-1.90. 14,15 From the fit results, the in-plane birefringence ∆n c-b and the out-plane birefringence ∆n b-a were calculated.…”

“…The data were fit to the mathematical model over a range of values for the average refractive index. From literature, the average refractive index for PET is usually in the range of 1.57−1.66. , Much less is reported on the properties of PEN, but the range of the average refractive index is reported to be 1.64−1.90. , From the fit results, the in-plane birefringence Δ n c - b and the out-plane birefringence Δ n b - a were calculated. Measurements of in-plane birefringence were also taken using an Olympus U-CTB Berek compensator.…”

“…They gave the relation between the structural parameters with different strain for PET and PE fibers. Fouda et al also used multiple‐beam Fizeau fringes method to investigate the changes in optical properties due to annealing and cold drawing processes of PET (Fouda, Kabeel, & El Sharkawy, ), nylon 66 (Fouda, ), nylon 6 (Fouda, ), PP (Fouda, ), and viscose fibers (Fouda, Oraby, & Seisa, ).…”
