“…Some authors cite diffuse or nodular swellings of the oral and perioral tissues as the most prominent features (Neville et al , 2002). Patients with CD may suffer from oral mucosal lesions such as aphthoid ulcerations, granulomatous and autoimmune‐like changes in minor salivary glands, reduced salivation, halitosis, dental erosion, pyostomatitis vegetans, angular cheilitis, candidiasis, odynophagia, dysphagia (Schiller et al , 1971; Valery, 1972; Basu and Asquith, 1980; Frankel and Mostofi, 1985; Schnitt et al , 1987; Weiss et al , 1991; Halme et al , 1993; Calobrisi, Mutasim and McDonald, 1995; Lisciandrano et al , 1996) and a high prevalence of caries (Rooney, 1984; Sundh and Hulten, 1984; Sundh and Emilson, 1989). Oral lesions found in patients with ulcerative colitis (UC) may include mucosal ulcers (Seo et al , 1992), pyostomatitis vegetans (Alstead, Wilson and Farthing, 1991; Chan, Scully and Prime, 1991; Philpot et al , 1992; Storwick et al , 1994; Calobrisi et al , 1995), diffuse pustules (O'Loughlin and Perry, 1978) and lichen planus (Davies and Shadforth, 1984; Alstead et al , 1991).…”
