Orbital alveolar echinococcosis: A case report

Abstract: PurposeTo report a rare case of orbital alveolar echinococcosis in Iran.MethodsA 23-year-old woman with multi-lobular mass lesion in the right orbit underwent excisional biopsy via a deep lateral orbitotomy approach. The pathologic investigation of the lesion was a multilobulated cystic lesion shown where the cyst wall structure was compatible with alveolar Hydatid cyst in histopathology. Clinical course, surgical, and medical management of the disease is noted briefly in the case of orbital involvement of the… Show more

“…1,3 Considering the pathophysiology of the isolated orbital mucoceles differs, and there is no communication with the paranasal sinuses, some authors suggest that treatment requires complete excision or destruction of the ectopic sinus tissue within the orbit by external approaches. 1,2,5,6 However, these external approaches have many disadvantages, including eyelid or upper lip scar, ectropion or entropion of the eyelid, periorbital swelling and pain, diplopia, prolonged operation time, and healing time. 5,7,8 Traditionally, treatment of the paranasal mucoceles is the removal of the mucosal lining and obliteration of the sinus.…”

“…Несомненно, наибольшую информацию по расположению паразитарной кисты можно получить при компьютерной (КТ) и магнитно-резонансной томографии (МРТ). Эти исследования позволяют определить зону глазницы (наружная, внутренняя и вершина), интра-или экстракональное расположение, выявить кисту в слезной железе или экстраокулярной мышце [18,19].…”
