The COVID-19 outbreak experienced worldwide has affected all production areas as well as livestock breeding. This study was aimed at determining the situation of sheep breeders in Ordu province during the COVID-19 outbreak and offering solution suggestions. In the study, data were collected through face-to-face interviews with 72 enterprises registered with the breeding sheep and goat breeders' association in Ordu province in 2023. In the study, it was determined that the breeders were negatively affected by the increase in feed prices (33.3%) during this period. Breeders' reasons for production (88.9%), land use (97.2%), and flock size (88.9%) were unaffected by the epidemic. It was noted that the weaning age of lambs did not change (97.2%) during the epidemic period. The pasture emergence period was not negatively affected during the epidemic period (94.4%). Breeders generally stated that they were not affected by the epidemic period in the use of roughage (84.7%), concentrate feed (83.3%), or vaccination practices (93.1%). Most of the breeders (94.4%) reported that their expectations from animal husbandry did not change after the pandemic period. After the pandemic, it was found that shepherds, fodder support, pasture improvement and health insurance support were more expected (94.4%). Breeders had problems finding a shepherd. In addition, health problems and quarantine practices affected the use of the labor force. Consequently, in order to ensure sustainable sheep production, the expectations and problems of local breeders should be taken into consideration and deficiencies should be eliminated.

In this study, it was aimed to determine the ways of supplying breeding animals for sheep enterprises in Ordu. In the research, enterprises with a minimum size of 80 heads have been taken into consideration. Random selection method was used in determining the enterprises and face-to-face surveys were conducted in 86 enterprises. 37.21% of the enterprise owners met their breeding coach needs from their own enterprises, while 33.72% met from their own enterprise + neighboring enterprises. Moreover, it was determined that 52.33% of the enterprise owners met their breeding female animal needs from their own enterprise, whereas 22.08% and 12.79% met from their own enterprise + neighboring enterprise and from their own enterprise + state enterprise, respectively. According to the results, 58.14% of breeders (50 enterprises) keep breeding female animals for more than 5 years in the herd and 41.86% of breeders (36 enterprises) keep them between 3-5 years. Breeding male animals are kept in the herd for more than 5 years in 47.67% of enterprises (41 enterprises) and for 3-5 years in 41.86% of enterprises (36 enterprises). In only 10.47% of enterprises, breeding male animals are used in the herd as breeding for less than 3 years.

Bu araştırmada, Ordu ilindeki koyunculuk işletmelerinde görülen hastalıkların ve önemli sorunların belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmada, en az 80 baş sürü büyüklüğüne sahip işletmeler dikkate alınmıştır. İşletmelerin belirlenmesinde rastgele seçim yöntemi kullanılmış ve toplam 86 işletmede yüz yüze anket çalışması yapılmıştır. İşletme sahiplerinin %30.23’ünün 25-40 yaş, %34.88’inin 41-55 yaş arasında ve 56 yaşından büyük olan işletme sahiplerinin oranının ise %34.88 olduğu saptanmıştır. Yine, işletme sahiplerinin %29.07’sinin herhangi bir sosyal güvencesinin olmadığı ve işletme sahiplerinin önemli bir kısmının (%59.30) ilkokul mezunu olduğu belirlenmiştir. İşletmelerin %19.77’sinde topallık ve %9.30’unda ise uyuz hastalığı görülmüş olup işletmelerin %22.09’unda ilaç ve aşı uygulamalarının işletme sahipleri tarafından yapıldığı belirlenmiştir. Yine, işletmelerin %4.65’inde aşı ve ilaç uygulamaları serbest veteriner hekimler, %10.47’sinde ise kamu tarafından yapılmaktadır. Yetiştiricilerin %18.60’ı en önemli sorun olarak yem fiyatlarının yüksek olmasını ve sadece %1.16’sı en önemli sorun olarak ürün fiyatlarının düşük olmasını belirtmiştir.
