“…Research shows there are concerns about union democracy (Fairbrother, 2005; Greene et al, 2003; Voss, 2010); building coalitions with new worker organisations (Haiven, 2006), with social movement organisations (Ibsen and Tapia, 2017; Jerrard, 2020), and with community organisations (Cockfield et al, 2009; Tattersall, 2006, 2007), adapting new strategies in bargaining and political action (Wilson and Spies-Butcher, 2011; Yu, 2014); union mergers (Buchanan, 2003; Chaison, 2018); and the need for international or cross-border collaboration (Heinrich et al, 2020; Lévesque et al, 2013; McCallum, 2013; Tattersall, 2006, 2007; Thomas, 2020). While each of these concerns is important if unions are to advocate effectively for their members, unions can benefit from additional research on how their internal administrative policies and practices have changed in recent decades.…”
