“…The comparison of the amount of OCPs in surface waters collected at the Qingshitan Reservoir with those of other regions, such as China (Nansi lake, 35 Guanting reservoir, 36 Chaohu lake, 37 Yangchaihu lake, 38 Haihe river 39 ), Pakistan (Indus river, 40 Chenab river 41 ), India (Gomti river 42 ), Italy (Tiber river, 43 Sarno river 44 ), Spain (Ebro river 45 ), Greece (Vistonida lake 46 ), Russia (Moscow river 47 ), Malaysia (Sembrong lake 48 ), and Chile (Cochamo river 49 ) ( Table 4 ), shows that the HCHs levels in the samples from the Qingshitan Reservoir were lower than those at the Haihe river in China but higher than those of the other regions, as presented in Table 4 . The average concentration of HCHs in the surface water of Qingshitan Reservoir is approximately 500 times that of the concentration of HCHs in the Tiber river and Sarno river in Italy, and approximately 30 times that of Chenab river in Pakistan.…”

“…At most sampling points in the Jiuxi Valley, α-HCH was the main component of the HCH isomers, which was mainly because of the composition of the technical-grade HCHs. Technical-grade HCH typical contained 55%-80% α-HCH [19][20][21], and technical-grade HCH and DDT were extensively used in the late 60s and 70s in China [11]. Compared to the other three HCH isomers, β-HCH was nonvolatile and more persistent [10]; therefore, it was more likely to accumulate in the environment and accounted for a relatively large proportion of HCHs in Jiuxi Valley.…”
