Organogel formation and molecular imprinting by functionalized gluconamides and their metal complexes

Abstract: Functionalized gluconamides and their metal complexes are shown to give supramolecular assemblies, in some cases chiral, and to form organogels in a large variety of organic solvents, e.g. methacrylate mixtures which can be poly merized, as well as o-xylene, chloroform, ethyl acetate, ethanol and tetrahydrofuran.

“…Copper(II) was employed as a co-ordination metal for the synthesis of carbohydrateselective polymers. [608][609][610][611][612][613] Other molecules imprinted via this approach include a chiral bi-2-naphthol, 614 1,10-phenathroline, 615 gluconamide, 616 623 The use of dendritic structures as an aid in the production of chiral imprints at Pt has also been reported. 624 Polymerizable ligands based on porphyrin have been described for the imprinting of Nheterocyclic templates in sol-gel materials 259 and in polymeric matrixes.…”

“…[8b] After photopolymerization of benzene gels and removal of the solvent by freeze-drying, an organic aerogel was obtained with very similar characteristics with respect to density and cellular size as that reported by Beckman, Hamilton et al [5] Another exciting development is the use of organogelators as template for the preparation of nanostructured materials. First Möller [9] and later also Weiss [10] and Nolte [11] prepared membranes with nanosized pores by the gel ± template ± leaching process, taking advantage of the distinct feature of organogelators to reversibly form elongated fibers with welldefined dimensions and geometry. In the gel ± template ± leaching process, gels of various gelling agents are prepared in polymerizable solvents like methacrylates or styrene in the presence of a cross-linking agent.…”

“…[39][40][41] These materials were prepared by the polymerization of gelled polymerizable solvents such as methyl methacrylate or styrene in the presence of a cross-linking agent such as divinylbenzene. After leaching out of the gelator, porous structures with submicron dimensions were obtained.…”
