Organoleptic, physical, and chemical tests of artificial feed for milk fish substituted by earthworm meal (Lumbricus sp.)

Abstract: Earthworms meal (Lumbricus sp.) is very prospective as milkfish feed raw materials to substitute fish meal. Type of raw material and the exact composition will generate artificial feed quality with high levels of water stability, desirable, and safe for the fish. The purpose of this study to evaluate the quality of milkfish feed at different levels of fish meal substitution with earthworms (Lumbricus sp.) based on organoleptic, physical, and chemical tests. The treatments tested levels of substitution of fish … Show more

“…The results of water stability testing on various test feeds show that the test feeds have the ability to survive above 24 hours. Artificial feed with low water stability causes the feed to be easily crushed and dispersed so that it cannot be eaten by fish [14]. Feed breaking speed in water is a major consideration in fish feed formulations.…”

“…This is presumably because the nutritional and energy content in feed is balance that suits the needs of the cultivan makes it grow well. Aslamyah and Karim (2012) stated that protein content and nutrient levels and energy in the feed must be balanced in order to support optimal fish growth. Feed with the optimum energy per protein ratio illustrates the balance between the amount of energy needed for basal metabolism and growth.…”
