Organometallic Halide Perovskites: Sharp Optical Absorption Edge and Its Relation to Photovoltaic Performance

Abstract: Solar cells based on organometallic halide perovskite absorber layers are emerging as a high-performance photovoltaic technology. Using highly sensitive photothermal deflection and photocurrent spectroscopy, we measure the absorption spectrum of CH3NH3PbI3 perovskite thin films at room temperature. We find a high absorption coefficient with particularly sharp onset. Below the bandgap, the absorption is exponential over more than four decades with an Urbach energy as small as 15 meV, which suggests a well-order… Show more

“…[ 20,21 ] Furthermore, low Urbach energies, which are extracted from near band edge optical absorption measurements and serve as a benchmark for crystalline phase disorder, indicate low disorder and sharp band edges for lead tri-halide perovskites (15-23 meV). [ 22,23 ] All of these properties contribute to high open-circuit voltages, long charge-carrier lifetimes, and micrometer diffusion lengths, which are crucial for planar-hetero junction photovoltaics. [ 1,24 ] Nonetheless, these parameters are also expected to depend on the infl uence of crystallization condition on perovskite morphology in fabricated fi lms.…”

“…To the best of our knowledge, this is the highest carrier mobility for the perovskite PFETs. [17] The incorporation of Cs cation (Cs = 0%-30%) has notable effect on the performance of ambipolar triple cation PFETs.We have exposed freshly prepared PFETs to ambient air and monitored the p-and n-channel performance as a function of Organolead halide perovskites (ABX 3 where A is organic or inorganic cation, B is metal cation, and X is halogen anion) have significant attention as light absorber for highly efficient perovskite solar cells. Although having optimal bandgap, high absorption coefficient, and long-range exciton diffusion length, [1][2][3] methylammonium lead iodide (MAPbI 3 ) deteriorates at 85 °C due to the volatility of MA (methylammonium) cation.…”
