“…Natural occurring prenylated xanthones, macluraxanthone (99.89 % purity) and osajaxanthone (99.85 % purity) were isolated from the bark of the roots of Maclura pomifera as reported elsewhere ,, and were kindly supplied by Professor Derek Horton (American University, Washington D.C., USA). All the chemical reagents used for solutions preparation were reagent grade from Merck and used as received.…”

“…In this paper we focused our investigation on macluraxanthone (McX) (Figure ), a xanthone whose redox properties have never been studied electrochemically, but for which has been ascribed remarkable biochemical properties, (e. g., a potent antioxidant activity ,, a strong larvicidal activity in the larvae stages of the mosquitoes of malaria and yellow‐fever , a strong inhibitory effect against the human lung NCI−H187 cancer cell line , and a significant anti‐metastatic effect on B16F10 melanoma cells ). Also known by 3‐hydroxyblancoxanthone, this is a prenylated xanthone with a catechol moiety, that occurs in the root bark of osage orange tree ( Maclura pomifera Raf, from Moraceae family), and in others plants ( Cudrania/Maclura cochinchinensis and Maclura amboinenesis , from Moraceae family; Calophyllum blanco , Calophyllum inophyllum , and Garcinia ovalifolia from Calophyllaceae/Clusiaceae/Clusiaceae‐Guttiferae families; Rheedia brasiliensis , from Clusiaceae family; and, Cratoxylum cochinchinense (Lour.)…”

“…Prenylated and non-prenylated flavonoids have been obtained from the fruits (Monache et al, 1994;Mahmoud, 1981), leaves, heartwood and root bark (Monache et al, 1994). Xanthones (Wolfrom et al, 1946) and stilbenes (Djapic et al, 2003) have been isolated from the root bark and heartwood, respectively.…”
