-An experiment was conducted to determine the effect of varying dietary supplemental inclusion levels of onion and garlic mixture on semen quality characteristics of Koekoek breeder cocks aged 35-41 weeks. The experimental diets were isocaloric and isonitrogenous but with different supplemental inclusion levels of onion and garlic. A complete randomized design was used for the experiment. The three dietary supplemental levels based on garlic and onion supplemental inclusion levels were Q 0 (0 g onion and 0 g garlic per 600 g DM feed), Q 1 (2.5 g onion and 2.5 g garlic per 600 g DM feed), and Q 2 (5 g onion and 5 g garlic per 600 g DM feed) with each treatment having three replicates. A quadratic type equation was used to determine the onion and garlic levels for optimum semen quality characteristics. Daily supplementation with 5 g onion and 5 g garlic per 600 g DM feed increased progressive motile cells (%), actual life sperm count (×10 6 /nl), and live sperm (%) by 221.20%, 301.51%, and 352.43%, while 2.5 g onion and 2.5 g garlic per 600 g DM feed reduced them by 28.67%, 12.69%, and 19.00%, respectively. However, daily supplementation with 2.5 g onion and 2.5 g garlic per 600 g DM feed increased sperm count (×10 6 /nl) by 12.82%, whereas daily supplementation with 5 g onion and 5 g garlic per 600 g DM feed reduced it by 10.26% in Koekoek breeder cocks. Dietary onion and garlic supplemental inclusion levels of 3. 009, 3.191, 4.621, 6.601, 6.719, 2.327, 2.385, and 2.247 g per 600 g DM feed supported optimum progressive motile cells (%), immotile sperm cells (%), actual dead sperm count (×10 6 /nl), actual live sperm count (×10 6 /nl), live sperm (%), acrosome morphology defects (%), acrosome detachment (%), and acrosome swelling (%), with probability values ranging from 0.003 to 0.783, whereas minimum progressive motile cells (%) increase was achieved at an optimum onion and garlic supplementation levels of 3.009 g per 600 g DM feed. These findings have a lot of implications on the use of supplemental onion and garlic inclusion levels to enhance reproductive efficiency in Koekoek breeder cocks.

Abstract. This study was conducted to determine the reproductive performance of various breeds of Sentul chicken. The present research was assigned in an experiment model with a completely randomized design (CRD), with 5 breeds of Sentul chicken as treatments, namely Abu Sentul chicken = SA; Batu Sentul Chicken=SB; Emas Sentul Chicken=SE; Debu Sentul Chicken=SD; and Geni Sentul Chicken=SG. Each treatment was repeated 5 times with 4 female and 1 male birds each, thus the total number of chicken were 100 females and 25 males with an average initial female weight was 1,336.05±84.99 g and male weight was 2,050.53±121.78 g. The experiment was conducted for 14 weeks started from 20 week old until 34 week old. Variables measured were spermatozoa production, fertility, and hatchability. Data were subjected to analysis of variance and HSD test. Results showed that various breeds of Sentul chicken had no significant effect (P>0.05) on spermatozoa production, and had significant effect (P<0.05) on fertility and hatchability. It can be concluded that spermatozoa production of various breeds of Sentul chicken are relatively similar, while fertility and hatchability of Emas chicken was lower than that of Abu Sentul chicken and Batu Sentul Chicken. Key words:Reproductive performance, spermatozoa production, fertility, hatchability, Sentul chicken Abstrak. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengkaji kinerja reproduksi berbagai jenis ayam Sentul. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimen dengan rancangan acak lengkap (RAL), Perlakuan adalah 5 jenis ayam Sentul yang terdiri atas ayam Sentul Abu = SA; ayam Sentul Batu = SB; ayam Sentul Emas = SE; ayam Sentul Debu = SD; dan ayam Sentul Geni = SG. Setiap perlakuan diulang 5 kali masing-masing terdiri dengan 4 betina dan 1 ekor jantan, sehingga jumlah total ayam sentul ada 100 ekor betina dan 25 ekor jantan dengan berat awal rata-rata ayam betina adalah 1.336,05±84,99 g dan berat ayam jantansebesar 2.050,53±121,78 g. Penelitian dilakukan selama 14 minggu mulai dari umur 20 minggu sampai 34 minggu. Variabel yang diukur adalah produksi spermatozoa, fertilitas, dan daya tetas. Data yang diperoleh kemudiandianalisis variasi dan dilanjutkan uji BNJ. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa berbagai jenis ayam Sentul tidak berpengaruh (P>0,05) terhadap produksi spermatozoa, dan berpengaruh nyata (P<0,05) pada fertilitas dan daya tetas. Penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa produksi spermatozoa berbagai jenis ayam Sentul relatif sama, sedangkan fertilitas dan daya tetas ayam Sentul Emas lebih rendah dibandingkan ayam Sentul Abu dan ayam Sentul Batu.

An experiment was conducted to determine the effect of varying dietary supplemental inclusion levels of onion and garlic on semen quality characteristics of Hubbard white breeder broiler cocks aged 35-41 weeks old. A complete randomized design was used for the experiment. The three dietary supplemental levels based on garlic and onion supplemental inclusion levels are L 0 (0g onion and 0g garlic per 600g DM feed), L 1 , (2.5g onion and 2.5g garlic per 600g DM feed) and L 3 (5g Onion and 5g garlic per 600g DM feed) with each treatment having 3 replicates. A quadratic type equation was used to determine the Onion and Garlic levels for optimum semen quality characteristics. Daily supplementation with 2.5g onion and 2.5g garlic per 600g DM feed increased (P<0.05) actual life sperm count (×10v /nl) by 370.58 % whereas daily supplementation with 5g onion and 5g garlic per 600g DM feed increased (P<0.05) actual life sperm count (×10v /nl) by 405.75%. Similarly, daily supplementation with 2.5g onion and 2.5g garlic per 600g DM feed increased (P<0.05) live sperm count (%) by 399.88 % whereas daily supplementation with 5g onion and 5g garlic per 600g DM feed increased (P<0.05) live sperm count (%) by 379.90%. Dietary onion and garlic supplemental inclusion levels of 3.335g, 3.446g, 3.787g, 3.438g, 3.068g, 4.247g per 600g DM feed supported optimum actual dead sperm count, dead sperm count, actual live sperm count, live sperm count (%), acrosome morphology defects (%), acrosome detachment (%) with probability values ranging from 0.018 to 0.906, whereas minimum Acrosome abnormality (%) reduction was achieved at an optimum supplementation level of 3.58g per 600g DM feed with Y=3.33-1.332x+0.186x 2 , r 2 = 0.680, P-value = 0.018. These findings show that onion and garlic supplementation enhances semen quality characteristics in Hubbard white breeder broiler cocks.
