Osseointegration: a review of the fundamentals for assuring cementless skeletal fixation

Abstract: Direct skeletal fixation, termed osseointegration, has expanded in the last century and includes use in total joint replacements, the edentulous mandible and maxilla, and percutaneous osseointegrated prosthetics.
