Outcomes of vitrified–warmed day-4 embryos after day-3 cleavage-stage biopsy

Abstract: The objective of this study was to compare the post-warming survival rates of biopsied and non-biopsied day-3 embryos vitrified on day 4 and to evaluate the clinical outcomes of following transfers. This study included 18 preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) patients and 18 non-PGD patients treated between January 2005 and January 2009 who had not achieved live births during their fresh embryo-transfer cycles and whose surplus embryos were cryopreserved on day 4. The embryo survival rate after warming in th… Show more

“…These results were demonstrated for embryos that were biopsied either on day 3 or day 5 regardless of whether they were cryopreserved by slow freezing methods or by vitrification. [112][113][114][115][116][117] We at IHR/RGI 112 have been offering eSET to all patients <36 years since 2004, and when top-quality embryos are available for transfer, pregnancy rates were not compromised.…”

“…However, fortunately biopsied embryos may be efficiently vitrified, then result in high cryosurvival, and clinical pregnancy and implantation rates similar to those obtained in nonbiopsy cycles. [107][108][109][110][111] Moreover, embryo cryopreservation permits avoidance of the onset of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) in patients at risk 112,113 and taking full advantage of the more appropriate status of the endometrium disengaged from any ovarian stimulation. In fact, the elevated levels of estradiol and progesterone during the follicular phase of ovarian stimulation may lead to morphological and biochemical alterations resulting in a less receptive endometrium, thus affecting ART success rates.…”
