Ovarian Fibroma with Serous Cystadenoma—An Unusual Combination: A Case Report

Abstract: Surface epithelial tumors account for more than 90% of ovarian tumors, of which serous tumors comprise 46%. Sex-cord stromal tumors constitute 8% of ovarian tumors, fibroma being the commonest, comprising 70% in this category. Combination of different types of tumors can occur in ovary with most common being Mucinous cystadenoma and Brenner tumour. We report a case of a very rare combination of ovarian tumour-Fibroma with Serous cystadenoma of the ovary. This combination is not mentioned in any standard textbo… Show more

“…Despite the fact that collision tumors have been recently increasingly reported, occurrence of these tumors with the ovary is rare, especially in the collision of two benign variants. 3,4 Surface epithelial-stromal tumors are the commonest of ovarian tumors. Sex cord stromal tumors are less common.…”

“…[7] Common combinations with ovarian tumours include mucinous cystadenoma and a combination of Brenner tumour, mature cystic teratoma, Sertoli-Leidig cell tumour may be seen. [8] Ovarian tumours are currently classified based on the histogenesis of the ovary. Early development of the ovary is characterised by segregation and migration of the primordial germ cells from their sites of origin to the genital ridges (bilateral thickenings of the coelomic epithelium).…”

“…Heterologous elements and a combination of these tumours with other ovarian tumors have been variously reported in literature. 12,13 In the background of paucity of literature, a high suspicion of such variants while dealing with ovarian tumors would be desirable.…”
