Overview of Boost Converters for Photovoltaic Systems

Abstract: DC-DC boost power converters play an important role in solar power systems; they step up the input voltage of a solar array for a given set of conditions. This paper presents an overview of the variance boost converter topologies. Each boost converter is evaluated on its capability to operate efficient, size, and cost of implementation. Conventional boost converter and interleaved boost converter are widely used topologies in photovoltaic systems reported; however, they have negative sides of varied efficiency… Show more

“…It is widely known in the literature that conventional BC is inadequate for high-gain requests due to the parasitic circuit resistance and the limited commuting periods of semiconductor components. These drawbacks can limit the converter gain, where the output voltage value will not exceed twice the input voltage [2], [3]. Furthermore, some applications, such as converters designed for renewable energy and light-emitting diode (LED) drivers, should be supplied with a constant current from the DC source [4].…”

“…Currently, approximately 26% of the world is powered by renewable energy [1]. Solar energy is a most widely renewable energy source due to the absence of fuel costs, minimal maintenance needs, and environmental friendliness [2]. In solar power system Photovoltaic (PV) model is used to convert the light and heat from the sun into electricity.…”
