“…The presence of OvHV-2 in South India became evident, when screening of 612 samples from sheep and goats with some respiratory disease, showed that 17 of these were positive [1]. Recently, OvHV-2 was detected in a captive bison, which died of MCF like symptoms at Bannerghatta National Park, Bengaluru [30]. Detailed investigations revealed the occurrences of clinical cases of MCF in cattle in the areas, surrounding the park.…”

“…Later the occurrence of sheep associated MCF was reported in cattle (Wani et al 2004). Detection of OvHV-2 associated with respiratory disease or fever in sheep and goat was also reported from Jammu and Kashmir and southern parts of India (Wani et al 2006;Banumathi et al 2008) Very recently SA-MCF was recorded in captive bison from Karnataka state (Sood et al 2012). To the authors knowledge there were no reports of SA-MCF in cattle from southern part of India.…”

“…SA-MCF disease was reported in India in the year 1975 on the basis of histopathological examination (9). The confirmation of SA-MCF disease by OvHV-2 genome detection in sheep and goat (10), captive bison (11), and cattle (12,13) has since then been reported. The prevalence of OvHV-2 in sheep ranged from 24.44% to 85% in various states in India (10,12,14) however, the genetic characterization of OvHV-2 was not reported in any of these studies.…”
