Abstract: The prolonged, post-weaning fast of northern elephant seal (Mirounga angustirostris) pups is characterized by a reliance on lipid metabolism and reversible, fasting-induced insulin resistance providing a unique model to examine the effects of insulin on lipid metabolism.
