Ozone therapy in periodontics: A meta-analysis

Abstract: Gingival and periodontal diseases constitute a major distress in the field of dentistry. The greater part of the contributing and etiologic factors are diminished or treated with all forms of ozone. Ozone which is well known for its antimicrobial and tissue regenerative properties is indicated in all the stages of gingival and periodontal diseases. The aim of this study was to review literature on the effects of ozone as an adjunct to mechanical therapy in periodontitis patients. A search of literature was con… Show more

“…The combined interventions of ozone gas and photodynamic therapy had a positive effect on mandibular osteonecrosis. as well as topical ozonized water in cases of gingivitis, dentin hypersensitivity, halitosis, periodontal diseases, prosthetic stomatitis (Deepthi & Bilichodmath, 2020;Lio et al, 2020;Suh et al, 2019;Tiwari et al, 2017;Tricarico et al, 2020).…”

“…A valid alternative to chlorhexidine could be ozone; it is considered a powerful antimicrobial, especially in its ability to counteract viral reduplication by inhibiting the activity of reverse transcriptase, a part of the viral protein synthesis. The application of ozone in dentistry is the result of its chemical–physical properties such as immunostimulant, analgesic, anti-hypoxic, detoxifying, antimicrobial, bioenergetic, and biosynthetic action [ 29 , 30 , 31 ].…”

“…Topical application of ozone in Dentistry can be managed in different forms: gaseous form, conveyed in the form of oils and in aqueous form, called ozonated water. 1 The use of ozonated water for the treatment of oral pathologies is widely documented in the literature.…”
