“…ArF excimer laser irradiation with oxygen (O 2 ); , gamma irradiation; UV radiation combined with ozone (O 3 ), ,, air, or ammonia (NH 3 ); and vacuum-UV (VUV, 172 nm) with air are all alternative functionalization techniques that have been tested on polystyrene with success. Among these, treatments combining UV and O 3 (UV–ozone) are of interest because of design simplicity, operation close to ambient conditions, relative low cost, controllability, and generally harmless waste products, because ozone is a thermodynamically unstable precursor quickly reconverted to oxygen. However, the major drawback of UV–ozone treatments is that most of the functionalization does not last over time. ,, Functional group retention might be improved by replacing ozone with another chemical precursor that would be able to polymerize when exposed to UV light.…”

“…In view of the high cost of noble metals, the metal oxide catalysts are usually preferred for ozone decomposition reactions. Catalyst supports include γ-Al 2 O 3 , SiO 2 , TiO 2 , zeolite, activated carbon (or carbon fibrous materials), or a combination of these. , …”

“…Industrial O2 production relies almost exclusively on air-separation processes 16,17 . One of these, PSA, is a cyclic chromatographic separation process 18 , which, in the last four decades, has steadily been displacing cryogenic distillation as the process of choice for O2 production, in an increasing number of conditions 16,17 .…”

“…One of these, PSA, is a cyclic chromatographic separation process 18 , which, in the last four decades, has steadily been displacing cryogenic distillation as the process of choice for O2 production, in an increasing number of conditions 16,17 . Presently, improvement of the process of air separation by PSA depends mainly on the development of new adsorbent materials, with greater working capacities 19,20 and selectivities; this is especially the case for O2, which is particularly hard to separate from Ar.…”
