P‐5: A High Resolution Multi‐View 2D/3D Display with HxDP Arrangement and its Optical Characterization

Abstract: We have developed a multi-view 2D/3D Display with the HxDP (Horizontally x times-Density Pixels) arrangement. The multi-view display features the same display resolution in 2D and 3D modes and simultaneously displays 2D and 3D images on the same screen. It has excellent optical characteristics: a low 3D crosstalk of less than 2%, a large QSVS (Qualified Stereoscopic Viewing Space), and a smooth motion parallax.

“…We developed horizontal x times-density pixels (HxDP) as a pixel arrangement specifically for autostereoscopic displays [4]. The HxDP arrangement has a horizontal pixel density of x times the vertical pixel density (where x is the number of viewpoints), enabling the simultaneous display of 2D and 3D images with the same resolution.…”

“…The positions of the user's eyes are detected and the contents (left eye or right eye views) are swapped to the appropriate view-zones for the user to perceive correct 3D imagery. The NEC HxDP display [34] uses this technique, adapting it for a mobile device and lenticular arrays.…”
