Paediatric Research in Emergency Departments International Collaborative (PREDICT): First steps towards the development of an Australian and New Zealand research network

Abstract: Paediatric emergency research is hampered by a number of barriers that can be overcome by a multicentre approach. In 2004, an Australia and New Zealand-based paediatric emergency research network was formed, the Paediatric Research in Emergency Departments International Collaborative (PREDICT). The founding sites include all major tertiary children's hospital EDs in Australia and New Zealand and a major mixed ED in Australia. PREDICT aims to provide leadership and infrastructure for multicentre research at the… Show more

“…We carried out a multicentre retrospective study of PSP and SSP presentations over 7 years (June 2003–June 2010) at nine EDs in the PREDICT network (annual paediatric census 19 000–69 000 patients) 13. Two centres developed protocols, based on the BTS guidelines,6 7 for management of spontaneous pneumothorax during the study period.…”

“…Recently, 11 institutions with large paediatric emergency departments (EDs) in Australia and New Zealand, including all tertiary paediatric centres, formed a research collaborative (PREDICT: Paediatric Research in Emergency Departments International Collaborative) 44. PREDICT aims to conduct multi-centre collaborative research to address acute severe conditions in which low incidence may hamper other research methodologies.…”
