Paenibacillus ottowii sp. nov. isolated from a fermentation system processing bovine manure

Abstract: Strain MS2379T was isolated from a pasteurized solution sample from a predominantly anaerobic fermentation system processing bovine manure in Pilot Point, Texas. Phylogenetic analyses based on both 16S rRNA gene and rpoB gene sequences showed that MS2379T was most closely related to Paenibacillus polymyxa (DSM 36T), P. jamilae (DSM 13815T), and P. peoriae (DSM 8320T), yet DNA–DNA relatedness through DNA–DNA hybridization re… Show more

“…Moderate amounts of one unidentified aminolipid (AL1), two unidentified glycolipids (GL1, GL2) and three lipids lacking a functional group (L1-L3) were determined. Strain UY79 T shared with its close relative P. ottowii [38] the same major polar lipids, except for GL3, AL1, GL1 and L1. On the other hand, strain UY79 T lacked phosphatidyl-monomethyl-ethanolamine and the unidentified aminoglycolipid that are present in P. ottowii.…”

“…To date, there are 242 validly published species of the genus Paenibacillus. They are widely distributed in distinct biotopes, such as rhizosphere [4,5], soil [6][7][8], insect gut [9,10], water springs [11,12] and fermentation systems [13,14]. Most members possess the ability to promote plant growth, produce antimicrobial compounds and yield enzymes utilized for bioremediation [15].…”
