“…The CTS is separated from the STS by a strike-slip fault which may also be related to the Permian strike slip events (the Baluntai fault, LaurentCharvet et al, 2003;Wang et al, 2009;Yang et al, 2007, Figure 1). The STS is characterized by an accretionary complex and tectonic nappes, while the CTS is interpreted as a continental magmatic arc Gao et al, 2009;Liu et al, 2014;Wang et al, 2011;Xiao et al, 2014Xiao et al, , 2013.…”

“…Gao & Klemd (2003) reported a Sm-Nd isochron age of 343 + 44 Ma on eclogite, while 40 Ar/ 39 Ar datings on phengite and crossite (blue amphibole) from blueschists gave ages ranging between 350 and 330 Ma (Xiao et al 1992;Gao et al 2000;Gao & Klemd 2003). However, more recent U -Pb datings on zircon and rutile in eclogites using secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) yield younger ages of 308-321 Ma Su et al 2010;Li et al 2011;Liu et al 2014). Similar ages, of approximately 310 and 313-302 Ma, were obtained on phengite in blueschists by 40 Ar/ 39 Ar and Rb-Sr dating, respectively (Klemd et al 2005).…”

“…The former was interpreted to have been exhumed in response to subsequent continental subduction (Agard et al., ; Rubatto & Hermann, ). In contrast, the Western Tianshan UHP belt was exhumed from the UHP depth with few continental components involved (Ai, Zhang, Li, & Qu, ; Gao & Klemd, ; Klemd et al., ; Liu et al., ; Zhang et al., ), and thus, provides an unique opportunity to probe the exhumation dynamics of oceanic slabs.…”
