Palm Oil Fuel Ash-Based Eco-Efficient Concrete: A Critical Review of the Short-Term Properties

Abstract: The huge demand for concrete is predicted to upsurge due to rapid construction developments. Environmental worries regarding the large amounts of carbon dioxide emanations from cement production have resulted in new ideas to develop supplemental cementing materials, aiming to decrease the cement volume required for making concrete. Palm-oil-fuel-ash (POFA) is an industrial byproduct derived from palm oil waste’s incineration in power plants’ electricity generation. POFA has high pozzolanic characteristics. It … Show more

“…Linear shrinkage is when the contained water content reduced from a specific range reaches the maximum loss of moisture content and there is no more volume change. Linear shrinkage is a sign that indicates the soil reactivity but not necessarily the particular clay present in the soil [51].…”

“…It was also reported that annually OPC production releases about 1.5 billion tons of CO 2 globally, which is corresponding to about 9% of the worldwide total CO 2 emission globally [ 5 , 6 , 7 ]. For resolving this global environmental issue of cement production, numerous studies have been performed to find out a sustainable and eco-friendly supplementary cementitious material (SCM) as an alternative to cement in concrete production [ 8 , 9 , 10 ].…”

“…The invention of self-compacting concrete, however, has led researchers to think about the flow characteristics [31]. In the current circumstance, self-compacting concrete is unavoidable in the construction industry [32][33][34][35]. Various mineral admixtures are added to the concrete to make it self-compacting.…”
