Parameter estimation of three-phase linear induction motor by a DSP-based electric-drives system

Abstract: This work describes a method to characterize a three-phase linear induction motor in order to determine the various parameters used in its per-phase equivalent circuit by a DSP-based electric-drives system. In LIM (Linear Induction Motor), the air gap is very large compared with the RIMs (Rotary Induction Motors). Further, the secondary part normally does not have slotted structure. It is just made of aluminum and steel plates. Therefore, the effective air gap is larger than the physical air gap. High air gap … Show more

“…To achieve a decoupled control, in control domain the motor is converter to two phase motor by taking the projections of flux on the orthogonal direct and quadrature axis using Clark"s transformation. Since control of dc quantity is simpler compared to its ac counterpart, the 3 phase induction motor is modeled in synchronous rotating reference frame [16]. As the name suggest, in this reference frame the orthogonal quadrature and direct axes references rotate at the speed of flux resulting dc quantities.…”

“…We, therefore, have a set of physical parameters to be identified, making non-parametric identification useless. Fortunately, the parameter estimation of mechatronic systems has been an important topic in literature, among them the traditional theory which is developed in the papers [6][7][8][9]. Many authors use different sensorless techniques [10] to estimate motor parameters.…”

“…In particular, literature [7] and [8] proposed a new type of control technology-model predictive direct torque control (MPDTC) technology, which is simple in principle and easy to handle nonlinear constraints, but there are a lot of online calculations in the MPDTC control process, which may cause the delay problem of the control system [4]. However, in practical applications, the rotor inductance will change with the degree of magnetic saturation of the motor, and the rotor resistance will be affected by changes in the internal temperature of the motor [9]- [13]. The deviation of the rotor time constant will lead to wrong field orientation, which will deteriorate the system control performance [14], [15].…”
