Parametric Estimation and Constraint Programming-Based Planning and Simulation of Production Cost of a New Product

Abstract: Currently-used decision support solutions allow decision makers to estimate the cost of developing a new product, its production, and promotion, and compare the estimated cost to the target cost. However, these solutions are inadequate for supporting simulations of identifying conditions, by which the specific cost is reached. The proposed approach provides a framework for searching for possible variants towards reaching the target production cost. This paper is concerned with a prototyping problem of product … Show more

“…The basic thinking of time reduction will be to equip each sub-assembly station with more automated tools, several assemblers, and a handling system so that the station should be able to complete its task within the given takt time [14]- [16]. Figure 6 illustrates the sub-assembly station along with respective operators in each assembly station subject to improvement every year until it could finish each task in only 8 hours in the fifth year of operation [17]- [20].…”

“…In the aspect of NPD, the CSP paradigm has been mainly used in the field of product design [8,9]. The use of CSP paradigm to cost estimation has been presented within the NPD cost, advertising cost, and unit production cost in [10]. This study develops previous research in the context of using the CSP paradigm to finding the trade-off between the cost of product development and the costs related to production and after-sales service.…”

“…Current methods of planning an NPD project use a procedural approach, in which an NPD model is built for a specific problem, and the process of designing the model ends when the structure of the model is sufficient to solve the problem. By contrast, in a declarative approach a single NPD model is developed, and it can be used to formulate various NPD-related decision problems [10]. A declarative representation of an NPD model provides a framework for applying effective techniques towards reducing the search space of possible solutions.…”

“…Current market requirements result in an increase in demand for personalized products with unique features and functionalities tailored to specific customer needs (Zubrzycki et al, 2021;Relich & Świć, 2020). Providing a wide range of products is a huge challenge for manufacturing companies, which determines the nature of the organization's activities and functioning, and above all, the type and structure of the manufacturing system (Gola, 2014).…”
