Parametric Investigation of Wavy Rectangular Winglets for Heat Transfer Enhancement in a Fin-and–Tube Heat Transfer Surface

Abstract: In this paper numerical simulations were performed utilizing Computational fluid dynamics code Fluent to investigate the thermo-fluid performance of a wavy rectangular winglet supported fin-and-tube heat exchanger with five inline rows of circular tubes. The influence of wave height, number of waves, wavy winglet length and winglet attack angle on the thermo-fluid performance of the fin-and-tube heat transfer surface has been examined under laminar flow conditions. Further the Plain and wavy rectangular wingle… Show more

“…Therefore, the heat transfer capability of BB-STHX is inferior to the former two. The drop in pressure from inlet to outlet of the heat exchanger determines the expense of pumping power to a certain degree and is a parameter that cannot be overlooked (Sarangi et al 2020). The pressure distributions of three kinds of STHXs in the longitudinal section are seen in Fig.…”

“…Sarangi and Mishra [26] and Sarangi et al [27] carried out numerical simulations with rectangular VGs in a FTHX and determined the optimum winglet number, winglet attack angle, and winglet locations (stream wise and span wise). They also examined the influence of wavy nature of the rectangular winglets in FTHX [28]. Naik and Tiwari [29] considered "common-flow-down" oriented VGs and examined the influence of attack angle, Re, and stream-wise and span-wise locations of the VGs.…”
