“…Embedding ZSM-5 in a sodium alginate-based membrane allows for a significant improvement in the performance, leading to q e of 71.76 mg g −1 , but such a notable result was achieved without extending the removal ability to cationic pollutants [ 37 ]. Similarly, other polymer-based systems such as hyperbranched polyamide functionalized cellulose [ 38 ], or chitosan-benzil-ZnO-Fe 3 O 4 nanocomposite [ 18 ] have proved to possess excellent abilities in anionic dyes removal (above 800 mg g −1 for orange II and 570.8 mg g −1 for Remazol Brilliant Blue R, respectively), but the removal cationic dyes was not assessed. In our samples, such a capacity is provided by CS, making our CS–ZX composite aerogels an effective solution for wide-spectrum dye removal.…”

“…Polymer-based foams or aerogels based on cellulose [ 10 , 11 ], alginate [ 12 ], and chitosan (CS) [ 13 , 14 , 15 , 16 ] have been extensively explored for water remediation purposes. High surface area nanoparticles [ 17 , 18 ] and micro/meso-porous particles, such as zeolites and metal–organic frameworks [ 4 , 19 , 20 , 21 , 22 , 23 ] have also been widely investigated as effective adsorbents. However, their reuse is hindered by the difficult recovery from polluted solutions, that can often lead to secondary pollution.…”

“…With regard to the NpZnO signals, the three adsorption characteristic bands of ZnO were detected, one of them at 432 cm -1 caused by the stretching of the Zn-O bond, and two wide signals centered at 3450 cm -1 and 1445 cm -1 corresponding to the stretching and flexion of the OH bond, respectively [39]. The OH groups are located on the surface of metal oxides as a result of the intermediate reactions involved in the synthesis process reactions [40][41][42]. The incorporation of nanoparticles to the polymer composite fibers produces very small differences in wave numbers in the FTIR spectra, however their intensities decrease slightly with respect to the pristine NpZnO from which it could be inferred that the interaction between the ZnO nanoparticles and the ABS/PAN matrix is physical, not chemical [38].…”

“…RSM is a sequential procedure that helps to quickly and efficiently identify optimum conditions (Tiwari et al 2013;Reghioua et al 2021b). Although statistical design of experiment has been mostly used in the optimization of industrial processes with multiple parameters (Haq et al 2018), it has rarely been applied to adsorption processes Jawad et al 2020d;Reghioua et al 2021a).…”
