Parametric study of a transverse flux wind generator at no-load using three-dimensional finite element analysis

Abstract: This paper deals with the three-dimensional static and dynamic finite element analysis of a transverse flux generator at no-load conditions used in offshore wind turbines. Two transverse flux topologies, namely the basic topology and that utilizing iron bridges are analyzed. The parametric study with respect to the flux linkage and poleto-pole flux leakage is conducted for various combinations of dimensions in static finite element analysis. The magnitudes and waveforms of the flux linkage and the induced emf … Show more

“…Furthermore, the iron-bridge configuration is modelled and compared with the traditional TFPM machine without a bridge for large wind turbines. The iron bridges are superior in terms of magnet utilization by 84% [69]. The author in [70] discovered that the flux in the rotor back iron is guided in the longitudinal plane due to the magnets and iron-bridge offering a lower reluctance path.…”

“…The power factor is improved while maintaining a reasonable torque density. It should be noted that the power factor supposed to be 1 in various research works [63], [69] and [84]. In general, the scope for the improvement of the power factor is limited in the TFPM machine.…”

“…The system has a permanent magnet and limits of career and position sensors for the movement and measurement. 23,24 Also, the system has a second element where the samples are placed and where is the voltage induced. The voltage generated by the samples is compared to the passage of the permanent magnets.…”

“…In the work of [2] analytic methods of determining generator electric properties were discussed, their accuracy was verified by means of measurement experiments of a machine prototype, in a smaller scale. The works of [3,4] present a different approach, in which in order to determine electric parameters of the studied machine the static analysis and dynamic three-dimensional Finite Element Method (FEM 3D) analysis are applied. In the aforementioned works the influence of several selected parameters and machine structure details on the values of leakage stream and the shape of the back electromotive force (EMF) induced voltage waveform was analyzed.…”
