Parent-Implemented Interventions for Young Children With Disabilities

Abstract: The purpose of this review was to analyze fidelity features in parent-implemented interventions for young children with disabilities. The authors conducted a review of 24 studies published in nine peer-reviewed journals. Each identified article was scored on the following categories: the participant characteristics, settings, study design, independent variables, measurement of implementation and intervention fidelity, parent training components, dependent variables, social validity, overall outcomes, and study… Show more

“…Within parentimplemented interventions, it is important to examine the systematic procedures to teach/ coach the parent, the parents' use of intervention strategies, and child outcomes. Within that triadic framework, it is also critical to explore fi delity at the level of the interventionist and parent (Barton & Fettig, 2013 ;Lieberman-Betz, 2015 ). The extent of child outcomes is dependent on parents using tailored intervention strategies at a frequency that supports multiple learning opportunities, which is fi rst dependent on the process used to teach the parents.…”

“…According to Barton and Fettig (2013), the analysis of the effectiveness of an intervention mediated by caregivers includes, in addition to the results documented for the child, the analysis of factors that affect these results, such as the fidelity of the parents in the use of the strategies and the procedures used by the researcher to ensure parental fidelity (fidelity implementation). From this background, the present study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of an intervention with caregivers to promote social engagement in their children with autism.…”

“…The single-case design studies (Craig-Unkefer & Kaiser, 2002;Hester et al, 1996;Ingersoll et al, 2005;Mobayed et al, 2000;Peterson et al, 2005;Woods et al, 2004) will be examined using Horner et al's (2005) case studies' methodology (e.g., manipulation of IV and DV repeatedly measured) will be examined through the WWC SCRD standards (Kratochwill et al, 2010). The group comparison studies (Kaiser & Roberts, 2013;Kouri, 2005) will be examined using the methods described in Barton and Fettig (2013).…”

“…According to Kaiser and Roberts (2012) Finally, Barton and Fettig (2013) also evaluated the study quality of group studies involving parent implementation. They set the following standards based on a set of quality indicators in Gersten, Fuchs, Coyne, Greenwood, and Innocenti (2005) and (i) attrition is reported and is lower than 30%" (Barton & Fettig,p.…”
