Participation of Peasant Mutual Assistance Committees of Kabardino-Balkaria in School Education Formation in the 1920s

Abstract

The article analyses the contribution of peasant mutual assistance committees into rural schools development in Kabardino-Balkaria at the beginning of the 1920s. Relying on previously unknown archival materials the author describes different types of mutual assistance committees’ activity aimed to provide material support to schools: agitation and explanatory work, maintenance and repair of schoolrooms, purchasing school supplies for pupils from their own funds, provision with the necessary literature. The everyday work of mutual assistance committees resulted in the Kabardinians’ and the Balkarians’ cultural levels growth.
