Despite the growing interest in social forestry (SF), how much do we understand the social, economic and environmental outcomes and the conditions that enable SF to perform? In this article, we use a content analysis of literature on existing traditional SF practiced throughout Indonesia. It examines the outcomes of these systems and the conditions that enabled or hindered these outcomes to understand possible causal relations and changing dynamics between these conditions and SF performance. We discuss the gaps in how SF is assessed and understood in the literature to understand the important aspects of traditional SF that are not captured or that are lost when the diverse traditional systems are converted into other land uses. It aims to understand the potential trade-offs in the State’s push for formalizing SF if these aspects continue to be ignored.

Empowerment of isolated and vulnerable communities in saving and preserving the environment is one of the development goals. Awareness of the communities plays an important role in saving and preserving the environment. The awareness cannot be separated from the level of knowledge about various things related to the environment itself. Knowledge that someone has may affect his/her attitude and behaviour. However, some people in the isolated and vulnerable communities do not know how to keep the environment clean and how to clear their land. Furthermore, some of the people do not care about their environment. This study aims to analyse environmental knowledge of Bonai ethnic isolated and vulnerable community of Rokan Hulu Regency of Riau province. Data of the study are collected from questionnaires, interviews and document analysis related to environmental knowledge of the isolated and vulnerable community. The method used in this study is the descriptive quantitative-qualitative method that describes the level of environmental knowledge of the community by using quantitative data. The technique used to analyse the data is the percentage technique. Then, the data are qualitatively interpreted. The research findings reveal that the environmental knowledge of Bonai community does vary in terms of gender, age, education level and profession. The isolated and vulnerable community status has a significant correlation to environmental knowledge of the community. In conclusion, the level of knowledge of Bonai isolated and vulnerable community belongs to the low category

Pasang Ri Kajang is an Ammatoa community life guidance which is consist of a collection of ancestral mandates. The formulation of the problem in this study is how Pasang Ri Kajang, which is Local Wisdom, contains aspects of Proverbs, Proverbs and Literature Characteristics the purpose of this research study is:Getting a picture of how Pasang Ri Kajang that is a Local Wisdom contains aspects of Proverbs, Characteristics and Literature. Data collection techniques through informants through observation, interviews, recordings and documentation. Sources of data in this study were obtained from primary datasources, namely customary stakeholders and community leaders. Data were collected from July 2019 to September 2019. Research findings and conclusions that the contents of Pasang Ri Kajang include proverbs. Types of proverbs: proverb, thimble or slogan. Pasang Ri Kajang, if observed almost all elementsof literary works contained in Pasang ri Kajang. Literary elements, namely: thoughts, experiences, ideas, feelings, enthusiasm, beliefs, beliefs, expressions, expressions, forms, and language criteria for proverbs that are the structure that must not change, the beauty of the language lies in the repetition of words at the beginning of the sentence with use the word, reflecting events that occur in a society, proverbs are formed and created with a reliable and beautiful language bond so that the proverb will be attached to the mouth of the community and hereditary Celoka and Talibun.
