Passively Q-switched Ytterbium-doped fiber laser based on broadband multilayer Platinum Ditelluride (PtTe2) saturable absorber

Abstract: Two-dimensional (2D) layered Platinum Ditelluride (PtTe 2 ), a novel candidate of group 10 transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), which provides enormous potential for pulsed laser applications due to its highly stable and strong nonlinear optical absorption (NOA) properties. PtTe 2 saturable absorber (SA) is successfully fabricated with firstly demonstrated the passively Q-switched laser operation within a Yb-doped fiber laser cavity at 1066 nm. Few layered PtTe… Show more

“…Other solvents used for graphene were ortho-dichlorobenzene [168] and perfluorinated aromatic solvents [169]. Among the solvents used for fabricating SAs, NMP is the most popular [61, 67, 88, 103, 116, 117, 119-129, 144, 145], while other solvents used are DMF [85][86][87][88] and isopropyl alcohol (IPA) [42,89,104,[116][117][118]. While the main advantage of using solvents is the high purity of the final material, there are also several drawbacks.…”

“…While other solvents with lower boiling points have been proposed, like acetone, acetonitrile, 1-propanol, or IPA, their solubility parameters were not as good as those for NMP and DMF and their use was not as successful [170][171][172][173][174]. Despite this, there are a number of reports on SAs made from IPA-based 2DM solutions, particularly MoS 2 [89], PtTe [104], Bi 2 Se 3 [16,89,110,111,137,138], and BP [42,[116][117][118].…”

“…Generation of Q‐switched laser requires a modulator to convert a continuous wave laser into pulses by modifying the intracavity losses. Generally, the modulation can be fulfilled passively or actively . Passive Q‐switching and mode‐locking can be realized using materials with saturable absorption capability such as graphene, carbon nanotube (CNT), metals nanostructures transition metal dichalcogenides (TMD) and transition metal oxides (TMO) .…”

“…Owing to its metallic property and high electrical conductivity (1000 Sm −1 ) [26,27], VSe 2 has been extensively investigated as an anode material for practical energy storage, such as potassium-ion and lithium-ion batteries [28][29][30], but has never been applied in the field of pulse fiber lasers. Compared to several other broadband saturable absorbers (SAs), such as MXene [31], PtTe 2 [32], and TiS 2 [33], VSe 2 possesses many advantages, including that the zero band gap makes VSe 2 have universal optical response, relatively large layer spacing of 6.1Å [25,34] and weak van der Waals interactions render it easy to be exfoliated from bulk crystals. It is expected that VSe 2 could be a promising broadband SA applied in pulsed laser field with these merits.…”
