Patch array antenna with cavity‐backed SIW feed for X‐band applications

Abstract: In this article, a new arrangement of patch array antenna incorporated with cavity back substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) and stacked structure is which operating at X‐band, is presented. The proposed structure enhances the gain and bandwidth of the array antenna markedly. The prototype antenna contains a 2 × 2 patch array formation with compact feed network that helps to miniaturize the structure and improve radiation properties in antenna. The inner metallic posts inside of the antenna limit the propagati… Show more

“…Its quasi‐closed planar waveguide structure determines the advantages of microstrip line and metal waveguide structures: printed circuit board (PCB) process manufacturing determines the low processing cost of substrate integrated waveguide. Easy of mass production, small size, low profile and easy integration, 5 similar to the traditional rectangular waveguide transmission characteristics, determine the advantages of SIW with low loss and low radiation interference. Meanwhile, the radiation performance of the antenna is enhanced because SIW effectively reduces the surface wave loss of the antenna and binds the energy in a specific region 6 .…”
