“…In our series, 13 subjects (3.8%; 10 girls, 3 boys) tested positive for MCI/MI. Rates of MCI/MI sensitivity in other studies ranged from 2.4% in asymptomatic infants to 11.7% in children referred for patch testing, but it was not among the top five allergens in our literature review (Table ). MCI/MI is the sixth leading allergen in adults in Israel .…”

“…It is not surprising that the MI epidemic has also affected the paediatric population, considering that common sources of MI include baby wipes and the emerging childhood hobby, ‘slime’ . Contact allergy to MCI/MI has been detected in up to 11% of children referred for patch testing …”

“…19 Contact allergy to MCI/MI has been detected in up to 11% of children referred for patch testing. 20 Colophonium allergy is most often associated with adhesive dressings. 2 Although colophonium sensitisation can be a marker of fragrance allergy, it may also relate to exposure to leather shoes, lipstick and playing musical instruments.…”

“…Paraben is less of a sensitizer than the newer MCI and MI preservatives , as these caused an “epidemic” of allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) in adults in the 1980s. In a 3:1 concentration, MCI‐MI was found to be a strong sensitizer in adults and children , and was gradually replaced by MI alone. MI was considered to be a weak sensitizer, but ACD to products containing MI has recently been on the rise in adults because a higher concentration of MI than of MCI and MI in combination is needed to achieve the biocide effect required .…”
