Since the Library of Congress announced it would move forward with full RDA implementation on 31 March 2013, libraries in the United States have been working hard on planning, training and implementing RDA in their own libraries' cataloguing workflow. However, there is no single model for RDA planning and implementation that works for every library, because the implementation plan should be developed based on each library's unique situation, organizational structure and culture. Columbia University Libraries and the University of Illinois Library are no exceptions. This paper highlights the similarities and differences in their approaches to RDA implementation by describing each library's implementation workflow, composition of RDA implementation teams, training programmes, tools and resources. This paper also analyses the challenges and changes posed by the newly created RDA MARC records in the current hybrid RDA/AACR2 environment on user services, resources management and future of bibliographic control.
