pCRP-mCRP Dissociation Mechanisms as Potential Targets for the Development of Small-Molecule Anti-Inflammatory Chemotherapeutics

Abstract: Circulating C-reactive protein (CRP) is a key acute-phase protein and one of the main clinical biomarkers for inflammation and infection. CRP is an important upstream mediator of inflammation and is associated with the onset of a number of important disease states including cardiovascular disease and neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease. This pentraxin exerts pro-inflammatory properties via dissociation of the pentamer (pCRP) to a monomeric form (mCRP). This dissociation is induced by bindin… Show more

“…mCRP activates platelets [20], monocytes [44], and endothelial cells [45]. It is a key substance that promotes in ammatory response [21,46]. The mechanism underlying the in ammatory response of endothelial cells is caused by the interaction of mCRP with neutrophils, macrophages, and platelets [46,47].…”

“…It is a key substance that promotes in ammatory response [21,46]. The mechanism underlying the in ammatory response of endothelial cells is caused by the interaction of mCRP with neutrophils, macrophages, and platelets [46,47]. Furthermore, mCRP binds to CFH and directs it to the damaged part of the cell [48,49], inactivates C3b, and limits the progression of in ammation [39].…”
