Pd- and Ni-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions in the synthesis of organic electronic materials

Abstract: Organic molecules and polymers with extended π-conjugation are appealing as advanced electronic materials, and have already found practical applications in thin-film transistors, light emitting diodes, and chemical sensors. Transition metal (TM)-catalyzed cross-coupling methodologies have evolved over the past four decades into one of the most powerful and versatile methods for C–C bond formation, enabling the construction of a diverse and sophisticated range of π-conjugated oligomers and polymers. In this rev… Show more

“…[1][2][3][4] This success has been aided by an increased understanding of the impact that the ancillary ligand has on the reactivity of the metal center. [8] Again, rational design of ancillary ligands has played the critical role in the development of these selective crosscoupling reactions. “…The established transition metal (TM)-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions including Kumada, Suzuki, Stille, Negishi, and Heck reaction are powerful and indispensable tools to obtain the desired extended -conjugated systems such as polythiophenes, polyfluorenes, polyphenylenes, poly(arylethynylene)s and so on [19][20][21].…”
