Pearls & Oy-sters: Diagnosis and monitoring of elevated intracranial pressure through ultrasound of the optic nerve

Abstract: Elevated intracranial pressure (ICP) is often an emergency condition that requires prompt intervention. c Measurement of optic nerve sheath diameter (ONSD) with bedside ocular ultrasound is a noninvasive tool that can be used in resource-limited settings to diagnose and guide treatment of elevated ICP. c ONSD >5 mm, measured 3 mm posterior to the globe, is associated with elevated ICP.
