Peculiarities of the orientation of the occlusion plane in people with different types of the gnatic part of the face

This work is a summary of results obtained through clinical, radiological, and photometric studies involving 90 people (aged 18-25) with physiological types of bite. The first stage of the study implied an assessment of the face main anatomical structures location (chin, lips and jaws) relative to the conventionally accepted and proposed lines (planes) of the teleroentgenogram and face profile images. At the second stage, the patients were divided into three groups featuring different types of dental arches – mesotrusive (n=33), protrusive (n=30) and retrusive (n=27), depending on the incisor angle of the antagonizing medial incisors. Almost all patients of Group 1 were observed to have the upper lip touching the nasal line passing through the n (nasion) and the sn (subnasale) points, the lower lip receding backwards and the occlusal relationships falling within the age norm, while the average incisor angle being 135.24±3.09°. In most patients of Group 2, the upper and lower lips were located forward from the nasal line, while the occlusal relationships matched the age norm, and the average incisor angle was 116.24±3.02°. In Group 3, the patients’ upper and lower lips were located behind the nasal line, the occlusal relationships corresponding to the age norm and the average incisor angle making up 146.24 ± 3.34°. The obtained data expand the vision of the upper and lower lip facial topography for various dental arches, and are of applied importance when it comes to assessing the aesthetic profile of soft facial tissues, as well as the data in question can serve the criteria to evaluate the rehabilitation effectiveness in patients with dental pathology in view of their individual maxillofacial features.

Clinical types of hard palatal vault in people with various gnathic dental arches within physiologically optimal norm

The study is based on an analysis of conebeam computed tomograms and biometric examination of jaw cast models obtained from 68 people aged 21–35 with permanent teeth physiological occlusion. The findings were used to identify the relationship between the morphometric values (height, depth) of the palatal vault, and the linear parameters (length, width) of dental arches. In patients with mesognathic dental arches, the palatal vault index, taken as a ratio between the palate height to the alveolar part width, was 41.14 ± 2.87%, whereas the width indicators exceeded (by 2.43 times on average) the hard palate vault depth parameters. People with dolichognathic dental arches had the value of the palatal vault index reaching 51.75 ± 2.57%, while the width indicators exceeded the depth parameters of the hard palate vault by 1.93 times on average. In patients with brachygnathic dental arches, the palatal vault index was 28.29 ± 2.62%, with the width indicators exceeding the depth parameters by 3.53 times on average. There is evidence showing that mesognathic dental arches have mesopalatal (proportional) palatal vault matching them, while in case of dolichognathic dental arches, the match is dolichopalatal (high and narrow) type of vault. As for brachygnathic dental arches, then the match is brachypalatal, i.e. a low and wide vault. The obtained data can be used in clinical orthodontics, orthopedic dentistry, as well as maxillofacial surgery to assess the hard palate parameters, to diagnose palatal vault pathologies, and to select respective treatment approaches in view of the dental arches shape and size anomalies.

Morphometric Patterns of Maxillar Y Apical Base Variability in People With Various Dental Arches at Physiological Occlusion

Morphometric data on the structure of the craniofacial complex are reliable and diagnostically significant values that are of applied nature in terms of practical dentistry. Within this study, analysis of conebeam computed tomograms, biometric indicators of plaster models obtained from the jaws of 83 people (aged 21–35) with physiological occlusion and various types of dental, gnathic dental arches, the degree of proportion between the maxillary apical base and the inter-canine distance were identified. Depending on the dental arch type, the patients were divided into three groups. The morphometric study in the CBCT frontal plane was the distance between the canines tearing tubercles and the inter-canine distance in the apical area. The study outcomes revealed discrepancies between the calculated and actual indicators of the apical base width for all types of dental arches in people with physiological occlusion. In case of mesotrusive dental arches (incisional angle — 127–143°), the width of the apical base corresponded to the width of the dental arches between the canines, while the differences in indicators were not statistically significant. In people with retrusive dental arches (incisional angle exceeding 144°), the width of the dental arch was found to be significantly above the width of the apical bases. As far as protrusive dental arches are concerned (incisional angle below 126°), these patients featured predominance of the apical bases width over the inter-canine distance. The obtained data add to that already available in research literature regarding the relationships and dimensional features pertaining to the craniofacial complex structures, as well as have applied value in orthodontic clinical practice
