Pediatric Canadian Triage and Acuity Scale (PaedsCTAS) as a Measure of Injury Severity

Abstract: This research explored whether the pediatric version of the Canadian Triage Acuity Scale (PaedsCTAS) represented a valid alternative indicator for surveillance of injury severity. Every patient presenting in a Canadian emergency department is assigned a CTAS or PaedsCTAS score in order to prioritize access to care and to predict the nature and scope of care that is likely to be required. The five-level PaedsCTAS score ranges from I (resuscitation) to V (non-urgent). A total of 256 children, 0 to 17-years-old, … Show more

“…In this study, the results showed that triage level as defined in the triage system is closely related to clinical outcomes, such as in-hospital mortality and admission to the ICU. Similarly, other studies also show that the urgency categories are related to patient outcomes [8,[17][18][19][20][21].…”

“…Cada nivel va a determinar el tiempo óptimo entre la llegada y la atención médica; así, el tiempo de demora oscila entre la atención inmediata (nivel I) hasta 240 minutos (nivel V). 9 Al igual se reconocen cinco modelos de triaje estructurado con una amplia implantación:…”
