This article aims to elaborate on the Peresean tradition, which is a unique and typical tradition among the Sasak tribe in Lombok, Indonesia. This tradition was held in ancient times to train fighters to fight invaders and beseech for rain. Nowadays, it is used to greet guests or tourists and celebrate national holidays, religious holidays, and traditional days. The present study employed ethnographic approaches. The researcher conducted the study in the West Nusa Tenggara province of Indonesia, specifically focusing on the Sasak tribe. This study result indicates that motivational reasons established from the Peresean tradition are to preserve culture and belief motivation. Meanwhile, the values education implies behind the violence in the Peresean tradition are, first, to strengthen the sense of solidarity and kinship between religions and local community members. Second, the values of such a tradition educate the mentality of sportsmanship to abide by Peresean rules. The third is to educate, in the spirit of courage and toughness, the young generation of the Sasak people in defending and contending for the sake of tribe, religion, and country. The integration between values-education, and people's motivation is the foundation and pillar for preserving the Peresean tradition in the Sasak tribe until today.

“…The values of character education are also found in the apitan and kadeso traditions, that is, being honest, religious, disciplined, loving the homeland, tolerance, love peace loving, caring for the environment and society (Arrazaq & Aman 2020;Nikmah 2020). The value of character education is also expressed by various previous studies including the Reog Ponorogo show, which has character values, namely building local wisdom nationalism (Sriana, Trisakti & Yanuartuti 2020); religious, mutual cooperation (Setyami 2021); foster togetherness, social ethics, devotion to parents (Taena et al 2016); faithful, pious, honest, intelligent and tenacious (Erni & Herwandi 2018); loving God's fellow creatures, believing in God's destiny, spreading kindness to others and being grateful for God's gifts (Chandra, Waluyo & Wardani 2019); gratitude, responsibility, discipline, love and compassion (Hemafitria 2019); discipline, always working hard, independent, creative and tolerant (Mulawati 2018); work hard, be creative, independent, and honest (Komara & Adiraharja 2020); religious character, honesty, tolerance, discipline, hard work, creative, independent, democratic, curiosity, national spirit, love for the homeland, respect for achievement, friendly or communicative, love peace, love to read, care for the environment, care about social and responsibility answer (Asih, Tantri & Ganesha 2017); religious, hard working, responsible, independent, communicative, socially concerned and cares about the environment (Mastuti 2016); religious, gratitude, tolerance, love for the homeland, care for the environment and mutual cooperation (Sholeh 2021); willing to sacrifice, help each other, work together, be persistent, appreciate the work of others, balance the past and future, love nature and social responsibility (Hadi 2017).…”

Character education values are discovered in cultural activities and human interactions with God, others and themselves. This study aims to explore and describe the value of character education in the peraq api of Sasak community in Lombok. This article uses a qualitative research approach. The data collection techniques include observation, interviews and documentation. The data analysis used triangulation with the stages of identifying interview material, classifying, coding, taking emic and hermeneutical approaches. The results of the study elucidate that the procedures and stages of the ritual begin from experimentation, which is considered and believed to have magical powers but does not conflict with religious values. The stages that are passed in carrying out the ritual include activities to prepare materials, process materials, fumigation, carry out rituals and give baby names. The character values comprised in the peraq api tradition are religious, ethical, responsible and environmental care character.Contribution: This research contributes to maintaining the values of character education in the Sasak society.

Pada hakikatnya, moderasi beragama adalah pendekatan atau sikap yang menekankan pemahaman, toleransi, dan keseimbangan dalam menjalankan praktik keagamaan. Secara etimologi, moderasi adalah istilah dari bahasa Latin, yakni moderatio yang merujuk pada keadaan sedang yang merupakan kondisi di antara keadaan berlebihan atau kekurangan. Sesungguhnya jiwa dan nilai moderasi beragama sudah ada dan mengakar sejak lama pada diri bangsa Indonesia. Konsep moderasi beragama pun sejatinya sudah tertanam pada agama-agama yang ada di Indonesia. Buku Moderasi Beragama: Akar Teologi, Nalar Kebudayaan, dan Kontestasi di Ruang Digital ini menyuguhkan tulisan-tulisan yang berasal dari beragam konsep, perspektif, dan best practice implementsi moderasi beragama di Indonesia. Bagian pertama Akar Teologi akan mengungkap konsep-konsep dasar dari moderasi beragama serta best practice dari konsep tersebut di masyarakat. Bagian kedua Nalar Kebudayaan berisi tulisan-tulisan yang mengangkat konsep moderasi beragama yang dirunut sebagai warisan generasi sebelumnya dari sejarah, artefak, dan teks. Kemudian, bagian ketiga Kontestasi di Ruang Digital memaparkan bagaimana praktik moderasi beragama dipahami dan diterapkan oleh generasi masa kini, khususnya di media sosial. Buku ini diharapkan bisa menjadi salah satu referensi menarik terkait moderasi beragama dan salah satu acuan penting bagi para pemangku kepentingan, yang tengah berusaha membumikan konsep moderasi beragama di tengah-tengah masyarakat Indonesia.
