This study aims to determine the effectiveness of parijoto fruit extract (Medinilla speciosa Blume) in improving the condition of fatty liver in male balb/c mice (Mus musculus L.) fed with a high-fat diet. Thirty male balb/c mice weighing 20 to 30 g were randomly divided into six groups, i.e: 1) Standard feed and Carboxymethyl Cellulose Sodium or CMC-Na 0.5% (K1); 2) High-fat diet and CMC-Na 0.5% (K2); 3) High-fat diet and simvastatin 0.026 mg/day (K3); 4) High-fat diet and parijoto fruit extract 5.6 mg/20 g BW (P1); 5) High-fat diet and parijoto fruit extract 8.4 mg/20 g BW (P2); 6) High-fat diet and parijoto fruit extract 11.2 mg/20 g BW (P3). Standard feed, high-fat diet, simvastatin, and parijoto fruit extract were administered for 56 days. On the 57th day, the total of 30 mice were terminated and the livers were then removed for H&E staining histopathological slides. Data on the degree of fatty liver on histopathological slides were collected and analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test and followed by the Mann-Whitney test. The histopathological analysis showed Medinilla speciosa Blume extract at a dose of 5.6 mg/20 g BW in group P1 prevent the steatosis degree compared to high-fat feed mice in group K2 (p>0.05). Parijoto fruit extract could act as the potential treatment for fatty liver.

Acne vulgaris atau jerawat dapat disebabkan oleh bakteri, salah satunya Staphylococcus epidermidis yang akan menghasilkan enzim lipolitik yang mengubah sebum menjadi massa padat, kemudian akan menyumbat saluran kelenjar sebasea. Daun pala mengandung senyawa saponin, triterpenoid, tanin, dan flavonoid sebagai antibakteri. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui daya hambat ekstrak etanol daun pala (Myristica fragrans Houtt) terhadap pertumbuhan Staphylococcus epidermidis. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian deskriptif eksperimental untuk mengetahui efektivitas antibakteri ekstrak etanol daun pala (Myristica fragrans Houtt) terhadap Staphylococcus epidermidis. Sumber data penelitian ini adalah data primer yaitu berdasarkan hasil zona hambat terhadap Staphylococcus epidermidis dengan pemberian ekstrak etanol daun pala (Myristica fragrans Houtt) dengan konsentrasi 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, dan 100%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak etanol daun pala dapat digunakan sebagai antibakteri terhadap Staphylococcus epidermidis. Rata-rata diameter zona hambat ekstrak daun pala yang terbentuk pada konsentransi 20% yaitu sebesar 10,45 mm, pada konsentrasi 40% yaitu sebesar 11,4 mm, pada konsentrasi 60% yaitu sebesar 11,9 mm, pada konsentrasi 80% yaitu sebesar 12,35 mm, dan pada konsentrasi 100% yaitu sebesar 12,6 mm. Konsentrasi 100% mampu menghambat Staphylococcus epidermidis dengan rata-rata diameter zona hambat paling luas yaitu sebesar 12,6 mm.

Jarak kepyar (Ricinus communis L.) adalah salah satu tanaman herbal yang mengandung flavonoid khususnya kuersetin, tanin, dan saponin dimana senyawa-senyawa ini dipercaya dapat memberikan efek antihiperlipidemia. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mengetahui efektivitas infusa dan untuk mendapatkan konsentrasi infusa daun jarak kepyar yang paling efektif sebagai antihiperlipidemia pada tikus galur wistar. Penelitian ini merupakan jenis penelitian true exsperimental dengan rancangan pretest-postest kelompok. Hewan uji terbagi menjadi 5 kelompok yaitu kontrol positif (simvastatin), kontrol negatif dan perlakuan (infusa daun jarak kepyar) dengan konsentrasi 10%, 20% dan 30% dengan masing-masing kelompok sebanyak 5 ekor. Sebelum perlakuan hewan uji diberikan induksi kuning telur selama 25 hari kemudian diukur kadar kolesterol total, trigliserida, dan HDL. Pengukuran dilakukan sebelum dan sesudah induksi kuning telur kemudian dilakukan kembali setelah infusa daun jarak kepyar diberikan. Parameter yang diukur adalah kadar kolesterol total, trigliserida dan HDL. Berdasarkan hasil pengukuran kadar setelah pemberian infusa daun jarak kepyar diperoleh hasil persentasi penurunan kolesterol total yaitu kontrol negatif (8.43%), kontrol positif (15.28%), konsentrasi 10% (10.23%), konsentrasi 20% (20.03%), dan kelompok konsentrasi 30% (27.13%) dan peningkatan HDL yaitu kelompok kontrol negatif (1.23%), kontrol positif (9.23%), konsentrasi 10% (2.96%), konsentrasi 20% (7.85%), dan kelompok konsentrasi 30% (5.14%). Konsentrasi 20% dan 30% memberikan penururunan kadar kolesterol total secara signifikan (p<0.05) dan peningkatan kadar HDL secara signifikan (p<0.05) oleh kontrol 20% jika dibandingkan dengan kontrol negatif. Infusa daun jarak kepyar (Ricinus communis L.) konsentrasi 30% paling efektif menurunkan kadar kolesterol total dan trigliserida, sedangkan yang paling efektif untuk meningkatkan kadar HDL adalah konsentrasi 20%.
