Private forest farmers in Semin Village, Semin District, Gunung Kidul Regency transformed the cropping patterns from monoculture to polyculture to meet increasing needs. The farmers planted a variety of food crops to fulfill their short and medium-term needs, and woody plants to meet the long-term needs. Beside this, farmers have processed arrowroot tubers into flour, which can increase household income. The tuber plants apart from being able to live under the shade, have a low glycemic index value so they can be consumed by the diabetics. The method used randomized block design, trials were conducted by cultivating 3 species of tuber plants under the teak shade. Species of tuber plants were arrowroot, canna and yam. The treatments given were: 1) without shade, 2) under 5-year-old teak, 3) under 7-year-old teak. The aim was to understand the relationship between tuber plant growth variables and their environments. Tuber plant growth variables were height and diameter of plant, number of leaves and number of shoot. Environment variables were height and diameter of the teak trees, soil characteristic, and micro climate condition. The relationship was analyzed using linear regression. The results of regression analysis showed that there was a relationship between soil characteristics and plant height (R2=100%), stand height and number of leaves (R2=25.50%), air temperature and number of shoots (R2=22.60%), humidity and the number of shoots (R2=16.70%), light intensity and the number of shoots (R2=14.80%), as well as temperature, humidity, light intensity, percent canopy cover simultaneously and tuber weight/clump (R2=39.10%).

ABSTRAKUmbi-umbian merupakan jenis komoditas pertanian yang banyak ditemukan di daerah tropis seperti di Indonesia dan pertumbuhannya tidak menuntut iklim serta kondisi tanah yang spesifik. Umumnya umbi-umbian mengandung sumber karbohidrat terutama pati yang cukup baik untuk menggantikan beras. Dalam rangka mempertahanakan ketahanan pangan nasional diperlukan eksplorasi sumber daya genetik lokal umbi-umbian sebagai sumber bahan makanan lain sekaligus untuk dapat melindungi dan mempertahankan kelestarian sumber daya genetik lokal tanaman umbi-umbian tersebut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui keanekaragaman dan kemelimpahan sumber daya genetik lokal umbi-umbian di Kecamatan Mijen serta menganalisa potensi sumber daya genetik lokal umbi-umbian dalam menunjang ketahanan pangan nasional di Indonesia. Teknik penelitian menggunakan metode eksplorasi atau jelajah. Data yang telah diperoleh kemudian dianalisis secara deskriptif semi kuantitatif serta ditabulasikan dalam bentuk tabel. Hasil penelitian ini ditemukan 10 jenis sumber daya genetik lokal umbi-umbian antara lain ganyong (Canna edulis Kerr), kimpul (Xanthosoma sagittifolium (L.) Schott), serawak (Colocasia esculenta (L.) Shcott), talas Jepang (Colocasia esculenta (L.) Shcott var antiquorum), kirut (Maranta arundinaceae L.), uwi putih (Dioscorea alata L.), gembili (Dioscorea esculenta L.), gadung (Dioscorea hispida Dennst), ubi kayu (Manihot esculenta Crantz) (varietas manalagi, putih, krepeg, kuning, mentek, mentega, dan pulut) dan ubi jalar (Ipomea batatas (L.) (varietas kuning ungu, ungu, dan putih). Jenis sumber daya genetik lokal umbi-umbian yang melimpah adalah Xanthosoma sagittifolium (L.) dan Manihot esculenta Crantz dengan varietas krepeg, varietas putih, serta varietas mentek. Umbi-umbian di Kecamatan Mijen dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan pangan alternatif yang kaya gizi dan karbohidrat, bahan obat-obatan untuk mengobati penyakit seperti hepatitis akut dan diare, serta bahan baku tepung untuk membuat beragam produk makanan.

Rice, as a staple food of Indonesia, is facing increasing demand while its availability stagnates due to the conversion of agricultural land in Java. This study explores a strategy to counteract this shortfall by accelerating rice production in non-Java tidal swamp areas.A key challenge in this context is to enhance the technical efficiency of local rice farming. Conducted in 2021 in the Kapuas and Pulang Pisau districts of Central Kalimantan province, Indonesia, this study aims to quantify the technical efficiency of local rice farming in these tidal swamp areas and identify factors contributing to its inefficiency. Empirical data were collected through surveys and focused group discussions, and subsequently analyzed using stochastic frontier production. The findings suggest that the average technical efficiency level is 0.58, albeit with variations across villages, ranging from 0.45 to 0.71. It was found that the size of landholding, the use of pesticides, labor, and harvesting tools have a significant positive impact on rice production. On the other hand, inefficiency is influenced by factors such as the number of household members aged 15 or above, education level, and the proportion of total household income derived from rice farming. These insights are valuable for policymakers and program planners aiming to improve the efficiency of rice farming in tidal swamp environments. It is recommended that government programs focus on the prerequisites for tidal farming, specifically water management infrastructures. Additionally, the application of locationspecific technology may enhance the productivity of local rice varieties in tidal swamps.
