This study aims to analyze the translation strategies and translation acceptability of the figurative language that are frequently used in the “Hotel Valhalla” companion book. Due to cultural differences between English and Indonesian languages, literal rendition of these figurative language may not be available and the translator may need to implement strategies to achieve equivalent expressions. The researcher employed a qualitative research approach involving data collection. Based on the result of the study, the researcher identified ninety figures of speech from the book with the following translation strategies: Translation by implementing less-expressive words in a similar figurative language with similar meaning, translation by cultural substitution in a similar figurative language with similar meaning, translation by a paraphrase with related words in a similar figurative language with similar meaning, translation by loaning words in a similar figurative language with similar meaning, translation by implementing similar figurative language with similar meaning, translation by cultural substitution in a different figurative language with similar meaning, translation by a paraphrase with unrelated words in a different figurative language with similar meaning, translation by omission, translation by a paraphrase with unrelated words, and translation by a paraphrase with related words. For the translation acceptability, seventy translations were considered ideally acceptable, sixteen translations were considered less acceptable, and four translations were considered unacceptable. This study indicated that the translator implemented ten translation strategies to translate the figures of speech from the companion piece with most of the translations considered ideally acceptable.

This research was to find out the types of translation techniques and the most dominant type of translation technique by the translator in some food and beverage packagings. The theory of translation techniques by Molina (1998) was used as a basic theory. This research used qualitative and quantitative method to explain the results of the analysis of the types of translation techniques and to calculate what type of translation technique is dominant to be used. The data source which was used in this research was food and beverage packaging. The data were collected by finding the food and beverage products in the various super markets. The information, sentences, phrases or words in the packaging were collected by taking a picture. The English texts were compared with the Indonesian ones and classified based on their types of translation techniques. The data were analyzed descriptively using the theory of translation techniques. After data were analyzed, they were calculated to find what type of translation technique was dominant to be used in food and beverage packaging. The result of this research showed that translation techniques used in translating the words, expressions, sentences and information that contained in food and beverage packaging were literal, borrowing, amplification, description, reduction, and calque. The most dominant type of translation technique applied is borrowing technique with 37 data (37%) found.

This study aims to reveal the educational values in "Ngelmi Karoyalan" script to be actualized to the community through journals or textbooks. The method used in this study is analytic descriptive for the old literature. The theories which are used include philology, semiotics, and hermeneutics. Based on the analysis, it is found that "Ngelmi Karoyalan" script contains 11 religious educational values; 9 educational moral values; 3 social educational values; and 7 culture educational values. The local wisdoms in "Ngelmi Karoyalan" script are: Javanese community do not like people who boast their good looking and wealth; Javanese community really hate people who spend money for hiring women; Masher men will suffer syphilis and become destitute in their old ages; No one wants to be occupied; Men, who seek women with money, will not get true love; Women who are already "depraved" will be difficult to be pulled socks up and forbidden to be approached; Javanese community really hate women who work as bitches; Javanese community do not like dandy and lazy women. Those Javanese local wisdoms are appropriate to be applied to Javanese community's lives nowadays.
