Percutaneous Transhepatic Thrombectomy and Pharmacologic Thrombolysis of Mesenteric Venous Thrombosis

Abstract: Mesenteric venous occlusion is a rare yet highly morbid condition that is traditionally treated with anticoagulation while surgery serves as the last resort. Percutaneous intervention provides an effective option with relatively low mortality and morbidity. We herein describe use of transhepatic percutaneous thrombectomy and pharmacologic thrombolysis in treating two cases of symptomatic mesenteric venous thrombosis. These cases underscore the fact that transhepatic thrombectomy and thrombolysis are a highly e… Show more

“…In our study, all patients had anticoagulation treatment with a combination of urokinase and heparin sodium. The prevalence of hemorrhage is high (23%-28%) [21,[35][36][37][38] . Therefore, an emergency treatment including ECG monitoring and blood pressure control for bleeding must be prepared.…”

“…Además, el inicio precoz de la anticoagulación, se asocia a una alta frecuencia de recanalización completa o parcial venosa 21 . Se ha reportado recanalización utilizando trombectomía percutánea transhepática y trombolisis en 2 casos de trombosis venosa mesentérica percutánea, con buenos resultados, pero hace falta tener mayor experiencia en esta área 22 .…”
