Group paging was proposed by the 3rd generation partnership project to reduce the awesome paging overhead in machine-type communication (MTC) that usually involves a huge number of devices performing small data transmissions. Under group paging, MTC devices with identical or similar traffic characteristics are assembled into a paging group; and all the devices in a paging group is paged by a single group paging message. After receiving a group paging message, all the devices in a paging group simultaneously contend for the random access channel to transmit their random access requests, thereby resulting in congestion in the random access network in the case of large group size. To tackle this problem of group paging, we previously proposed an improved random access (I-RA) scheme. In this paper we develop a mathematical model based on Poisson arrival approximation method to analyze the performance of the I-RA scheme. We derive closed-form analytical formulas for performance metrics, such as successful access probability, collision probability, average access delay, the cumulative distribution function of preamble transmission, etc. The accuracy of the analytical formulas is validated through simulation. Based on the formulas, we conduct a numerical study to investigate the impact of diverse parameters on the performance of the I-RA scheme. Moreover, we compare the performance between the I-RA scheme and the existing schemes by numerical studies. The mathematical model developed and the formulas derived in this paper can guide the implementation of the I-RA scheme in MTC.

Group paging can simultaneously activate hundreds of user equipments (UEs) using a single paging message. Upon receiving the group paging message, all UEs should immediately transmit their paging response messages through the random access channels (RACHs). Simultaneous channel access from a huge group of UEs may result in severe collisions of the RACHs during a very short period of time. In this paper, we propose a pre-backoff method to reduce the collision probability of random access requests. We develop an analytical model to investigate the performance and optimize the setting of the pre-backoff method. The accuracy of the analytical model is verified through computer simulation. Results show that the proposed pre-backoff method can effectively enhance the performance of group paging.

This paper studies how to solve a problem caused by M2M terminals sending a few data based on 3 rd Generation Partnership Project(3GPP) Long Term Evolution-Advanced(LTE-A) system and then it is analyzed, proposed, and introduced into the techniques. Especially, it is introduced solution for the lack of Random Access Channel and an increasing number of latency caused by countless M2M devices. It is proposed the technology for M2M grouping as well as allowable access probability according to user type. As it decreases the number of terminal by grouping M2M devices to try random access at PRACH, it can be reduced collision between Cellular users and M2M devices. So, it is proved that the proposed mechanism can solve the increasing average latency of random access on system coexisting Cellular users and M2M devices through simulations.
