Performance and status of beamline BL8 at SLRI for X-ray absorption spectroscopy

Abstract: Beamline BL8 of the Synchrotron Light Research Institute (Thailand) is routinely operated for X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) in an intermediate photon energy range (1.25-10 keV). The photon energy is scanned by using a double-crystal monochromator, the crystal pair of which can be interchanged among KTP(011), InSb(111), Si(111) and Ge(220). The experimental set-up conveniently facilitates XAS measurements in transmission and fluorescence-yield modes at several K-edges of elements ranging from magnesium to… Show more

“…Cu K-edge (8979 eV) XAS spectra of the red glasses were acquired in fluorescence mode at the beamline BL8 [17] of the Synchrotron Light Research Institute in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand. The incident beam is unfocused, monochromated by Ge(220) double crystals, 10 mm in the horizontal and 1 mm in the vertical with flux of about 10 9 photons per second.…”

“…Phosphorus K-edge XANES spectra were collected at beam line BL8 (Klysubun et al, 2012) at the Synchrotron Light Research Institute (SLRI) in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand. Prior to XANES analysis, the samples were milled and sieved (b0.05 mm) to minimize self-absorption effects.…”

“…The diffraction peaks were modeled by pseudo-Voigt function. X-ray absorption near edge structure spectra (XANES) of the samples NiLa 0.1 Fe 1.9 O 4 and NiY 0.1 Fe 1.9 O 4 and pure standards (ferrous oxide and hematite) were collected in transmission mode at BL8 [23] of the Synchrotron Light Research Institute (Thailand) to determine oxidation state of iron ion in the samples. A double crystal monochromator Ge (220) was used to scan the energy of the synchrotron X-ray beam.…”
